Overview
A KeyMod slot on its own has nothing to thread into. The insert drops through the round part of the slot, slides back into the narrow part, and locks against the inside face of the handguard - now there is an M4 thread where you need it. It is the small part that decides whether a mount holds or works loose, which is why this one is steel rather than aluminium.
The finish is chemical oxide, so it will not gall against a steel screw and it does not add thickness. They are sold in pairs because most mounts take two, and they will accept accessories from other makers as well as TD Russia parts.
