Overview
The castle nut is the part that stops an AR-pattern stock tube unscrewing itself. It threads on behind the end plate and is staked or torqued down against it; if it loosens, the end plate rotates, the takedown detent spring escapes, and the stock starts to wobble. A worn or rounded nut is worth replacing rather than persuading.
This one has six wrench notches cut around the rim so a castle nut wrench - or the wrench face on the IOS Ekventor multi-tool - gets a square bite from any angle. It is finished in black to match standard hardware.
