Sport-1 Handguard Kit for AK and AK-Based Carbines

The Sport-1 kit is designed for installation on AK rifles and civilian carbines based on the Kalashnikov platform, replacing the standard factory handguard. The kit provides a rigid and durable mounting platform for additional equipment, improves barrel cooling, and significantly expands the weaponÂ’s functionality while maintaining minimal weight and overall dimensions.

The core element of the system is the “Basis” mounting interface, which allows compatible accessories to be installed directly onto the handguard, without the need for intermediate adapters.

Compatibility with “Basis” Accessories

The Sport-1 kit supports direct installation of the following Zenit accessories:

• Mounting brackets:
  • B-2 (45 mm)
  • B-2L (34 mm)
  • B-2M (15 mm)
  • B-2U (75 mm)
  (used to form Picatinny rails for additional equipment)
• Sling mounts: A-1L, A-2L
• Hand stops: RL-1
• Front grips: RK-0L, RK-1L, RK-2L, RK-4L, RK-6L
• Basis rail covers: NPN-2
• Cable retainers: FP-3

Important: installation of the cleaning rod in the factory position is not possible when this kit is installed.

Sport-1S Version

A reinforced version, Sport-1S, is also available. It features a strengthened lower Basis rail, intended for increased mechanical loads or intensive use with mounted accessories.

Materials and Finish

All components of the kit are CNC-machined from solid billet, made from D16T aluminum alloy, and finished with a durable coating in black or desert color.

This manufacturing approach ensures high structural strength combined with low overall weight.

Installation Procedure

1. Perform partial disassembly of the firearm.
2. Remove the factory handguard and the standard gas-tube cover.
3. Install the B-10L handguard bracket.
4. Install the B-31L upper bracket.
5. Install the DL-1 auxiliary bracket.
6. Connect the B-10L and DL-1 brackets using the included Sport-1 tie clamp to ensure proper structural rigidity.

Why Are Different Screws Included?

Eight M5 × 7 screws are used to secure the B-31L to the DL-1 and B-10L when the side plate is not installed.

If the side plate is used, the following screws are required:

• Six M5 × 7 screws
• Two M5 × 9 screws (longer screws used to mount the side plate)
