Zenitco Gas Tube Rails: B-19 and B-31 Comparison

Compatibility guide

Gas Tube Brackets: Which One Do You Need?

Zenitco produces a full lineup of gas tube brackets designed to pair with their AK-pattern handguards. This guide covers every current model — short and long — and explains compatibility, rail types, and key differences between variants, so you can confidently select the right bracket for your sport carbine build.

Two Groups: Short and Long Brackets

All Zenitco gas tube brackets fall into two main categories based on handguard compatibility:

  • Short brackets — B-19, B-19N, B-19RPK: designed for short handguards, meaning Zenitco handguards whose length reaches the standard front mounting band.
  • Long brackets — B-31, B-31S, B-31N, B-31L: designed for use with B-30 and B-30U handguards.
Important: Short handguards can be used with or without a short gas tube bracket — keeping the factory gas tube cover is a valid option. Long handguards and long kits, however, must always be paired with a long upper bracket. There is no exception to this rule.

Full-Size vs Low-Profile Picatinny Rail

Across both short and long brackets, Zenitco offers two rail configurations on top:

  • Full-size Picatinny rail — offers more positioning flexibility for accessories such as a red-dot sight.
  • Low-profile Picatinny rail — reduces overall weight of the setup.

It is also worth noting the upper bracket included in the Leader kit. Its top surface features a Basis guide rail. When needed, a full-size Picatinny rail can be formed on it using brackets B-2M, B-2L, B-2, or B-2U.

Short Brackets at a Glance

Short brackets attach to the handguard using four screws (included). Here is how the current models compare:

Model Rail Type Compatible Handguards Notes
B-19 Full-size Picatinny Short Zenitco handguards —
B-19N Low-profile Picatinny Short Zenitco handguards —
B-19RPK Low-profile Picatinny B-20U, B-20L, B-23L Developed for carbines with RPK-pattern receivers

Long Brackets at a Glance

Long brackets attach using six or eight screws (included). All four models are compatible with B-30 and B-30U handguards.

Model Rail Type Mounting Points Sport-1 Kit Compatible Platform Configuration Limit
B-31 Full-size Picatinny (longer) 6 Yes 415 mm configuration only
B-31S Full-size Picatinny (shorter) 6 Yes Standard and compact configurations
B-31N Low-profile Picatinny 6 No —
B-31L Low-profile Picatinny 8 Yes (included in Sport-1) —

B-31 vs B-31S: What Is the Difference?

B-31 features a longer Picatinny rail on top but is only compatible with AK-pattern sport carbines with the 415 mm configuration — it cannot be installed on compact variants. B-31S has a shorter rail but is universally compatible with both standard and compact configurations, making it the more versatile and lighter option.

B-31N vs B-31L: What Is the Difference?

B-31L uses eight clamping tabs connecting it to the handguard, while B-31N uses six. The eight-tab design of B-31L is required for the rigid seating demanded by the Sport-1 kit configuration. B-31N was developed for standalone use with B-30 and B-30U handguards, where six tabs provide sufficient rigidity. B-31N cannot replace B-31L in the Sport-1 kit. However, B-31L can be moved from a Sport-1 kit onto B-30 or B-30U handguards. Additionally, B-31 and B-31S are also compatible replacements for B-31L within the Sport-1 kit.

Buying tip: Brackets included in Sport and Leader kits are matched for that kit — no compatibility check is needed at purchase. If you need a bracket separately (for example, a standalone B-31L), it can be ordered individually from Bazalet.com.
