Overview
A cocoon holds heat better than a blanket bag of the same weight, and the Defender leans on that. Insulation is Thinsulate, laid two layers deep across the back at 400 g per square metre and one layer at 360 over the top, where you need less. The shell is micro ripstop Dewspo with a TPU 10000/10000 membrane, the lining is cotton with a fifth of viscose for wear resistance, and the whole bag comes to 2350 g.
Two reversible auto-locking sliders let you close the bag from inside or outside, and crack it open partway for airflow without getting out. An insulated draught tube runs the length of the zip on the inside and a hook-and-loop storm flap covers it on the outside. The foot box is cut as a trapezoid so you can sleep in boots or without them, and the bag doubles up with the lighter Light model as a liner for colder nights. Extreme rating is -25 C, lower comfort -10 C, upper comfort -5 C.
