Sturm field shirt

Overview

The idea behind the Sturm is simple: the parts of a shirt that need to breathe and the parts that need to survive are not the same parts. So the body is a light, moisture-managing, quick-drying knit worn directly against the skin like a base layer, and the sleeves - which take the abrasion - are cut from a high-strength hard-wearing woven fabric. Knit gussets under the arms move the moisture out and keep the shirt comfortable through a long day.

The sleeve is raglan, the cut that gives the most shoulder movement, which matters when a pack or a harness sits on top. Bellows pockets with zips sit high on the sleeves, each with a loop panel for patches, and the elbow area is reinforced with a hook-and-loop pocket that takes a drop-in elbow pad. Cuffs are cut in one piece and adjust for width with a hook-and-loop tab; the central zip runs under a placket whose lower section is soft knit, so nothing hard sits against the chin.
