Overview
Kaolin is the standard hemostatic agent for packing gauze: it triggers the clotting cascade on contact and, unlike older agents, does not heat up, so there is no burn and no tissue necrosis. Farmagem build theirs on a non-woven cotton and viscose bandage carrying kaolin, with no toxic additives, and rate it at 2 to 5 minutes to haemostasis.
The bandage is z-folded rather than rolled, which is what you want with one hand and a wound to fill - it feeds out in a straight run instead of unspooling. It can stay in the wound safely for up to 24 hours if evacuation is delayed, and it is easy to tear to length. Two lengths, 200 cm and 400 cm, both 7.5 cm wide. Sterile, hypoallergenic, single use, five-year shelf life, storage between -50 and +50 C. It is used alongside a tourniquet, not instead of one, and it is first aid, not a substitute for professional care.
